In line with the Federal Government’s directives on the need for all Institutions to ensure strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols before re-opening. NAUB resumed academic activities on 9th November, 2020 in total compliance with the guidelines of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
According to the NCDC; proper hand washing, wearing of face masks and maintenance of social distance are part of the measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, the Management of NAUB have put measures in place to prevent both staff and students from contacting the virus.
Commenting during an interview with NAUB Information and Protocol Unit staff, the Medical Director, Maj Gen R N Inkado (Rtd) said ‘‘the University before resumption have fumigated the student’s hostels as part of its efforts to disinfect the living environment for students’’.
More so, with the provision of thermometer, hand sanitizers, buckets for hand washing and washing hand basins at the University gate and entry points to offices, the risks of contacting the virus is avoidable. In his advice to both staff and students, Maj Gen Inkado (Rtd) enjoined both to ensure constant wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing.
Speaking on emergency response to Covid-19 cases, the Medical Director said an Isolation Centre is provided at the Barracks where Student’s hostel is located in addition to the Biu town Isolation centre to effectively quarantine suspicious and contacted persons. He also assured the University Public that the University medical centre is provided with Personal Protective Equipment in order to avoid any form of direct contact between the health workers and the patients. However, social distancing is also observed from the entrance of the University Gate where security officers ensured a 2-meter distance.
