The concepts are intricately tied together, although it is evident that security is prerequisite for development but there can be no development without security either, Said Buratai.
Addressing the root course of Insurgency/Security, General Buratai (rtd) identified some root causes to poor governance, weak institution, ungoverned spaces, poverty and lack of rural development, adding that the Nigerian Military has developed several operations along both kinetic and non-kinetic lines of efforts to salvage insurgency in the country.
In the search for what needs to be done for peace, security and development, Ambassador Buratai said ‘‘we must search for security during peace time through all round development. The whole of society must be involved, there must be good and inclusive governance, strong military actions, International Collaboration and effective counter narratives to challenge the terrorists’ ideology’’.
The need to find a lasting solution to this insecurity and sporadic attacks to a permanent conclusion, Amb.
