BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT.
Department of Mathematic was established in the year 2018/2019 Academic session. The Department was headed by Prof. Bala Ma’aji Abdulhamid from January, 2019 to April, 2019. He handed over the headship of the Department to Dr. Daniel Watifa Mshelia on his appointed as the Dean Faculty of Computing.The Department was headed by Dr. Daniel Watifa Mshelia from May, 2019 to March, 2021. Dr. Abdullahi Ya’u took over as the head of the Department from April 2021, to July, 2021. Dr. Abdullahi Ya’u resigned from the services of the University and Prof. Bala Ma’aji Abdulhamid was appointed as the Head of the Department from July, 2021 to date.
PHILOSOPHY
The study of Mathematics provide a broad range of skills which play a key role in a range of different industries such as engineering, meteorology, social sciences, management and environmental science. Logical thinking and problem solving both accompany numeracy as the key skills and are the key components Mathematicians need as they provide the theoretical framework for physical science and data analysis
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
AIM
The aim of the B.Sc. degree programme in Mathematics is to train competent and versatile practicing Mathematician and to produce highly suitable graduate of Mathematics, for the global market, postgraduate and Research work.
OBJECTIVES
In order to accomplish the aim stated above, the objectives of the programme are to:
⦁ To instill in students a sense of enthusiasm for Mathematics, an appreciation of its application in different areas and to involve them in an intellectual stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.
⦁ To provide students a broad and balanced foundation in Mathematics knowledge and practical skills and Computer Science.
⦁ To develop in students the ability to apply their Mathematics knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problem in Mathematics.
⦁ To develop in student, through an education in Mathematics, a range of transferrable skills of values in Mathematical related and non – mathematical related employment.
⦁ To provide students with knowledge and skills base from which they can proceed to further studies in specialized areas of Mathematics or multi- disciplinary areas involving Mathematics.
⦁ To generate in students an appreciation of the importance of Mathematics in an industrial, economics, environmental and social context.
