Nigerian Army University Biu is conceived as a research-intensive and innovative institution for the transformation of the Nigerian Defence System to a 21st Century technology-driven force. The Institution is expected to impact on the national socio-economic development framework through the provision of creative and innovative solutions that will make Nigerian products more competitive in a rapidly changing and knowledge driven world.

The new University will provide a conducive teaching and learning environment in Nigeria that will attract high quality teaching and research staff, together with talented students; thus ensuring the availability of the much needed entrepreneurial ‘space’ as the platform for bottom up innovation. This will facilitate the grooming of graduates with distinctive competence inducing key 21st century world of works skills that will distinguish them, and their degrees as top performers in the global scene.

Apart from being a unique University, it will be a centre of excellence for learning, research and technological development which is consistent with the compelling requirements of 21st Century armies that strive to conceive, develop and source their military platforms and other requirements locally. As a solution centre, the University will promote excellence, ingenuity, creativity and distinctive competence in intellectual outputs.

QUESTION: What are the special features of NAUB?
ANSWER:
a. Will be a research-intensive university.
b. Expected to become the first green university in Africa with the planting of 10-15 million trees.
c. Every student, lecturer and worker in NAUB will be expected to plant at least 10 trees per year as part of the institution’s green canopy project.
d. Admission structure will comprise 75% civilian and 25% military and paramilitary.
e. Will serve as a production hub for ICT and solar accessories in the North East, Nigeria and eventually West Africa.
d. Students and lecturers will be expected to initiate and nurture at least one innovative project to a useable product annually.
e. NAUB will hold an annual military/commercial product fare annually to showcase innovative products by students and lecturers.
f. Will regularly attract Nobel prize winners as mentors for students and lecturers alike.
g. Will assist Biu community to become a centre of production and learning.
h. Will create a critical mass for military equipment production in Nigeria.
i. Expected to become self-sustaining in the foreseeable future, using internal resources and public-private partnership platforms.
j. Security is assured with two military units and other security agencies in Biu. Will use the smart concept to reinforce security.
k. Will provide academic chairs to facilitate the employment of talented senior citizens and other Nigerians in order to meet its mandate on military equipment production.

QUESTION: What type of University do the founders envisage in the near future?
ANSWER: The founders envisage a world-class university with state of the art academic, administrative and support facilities sitting on a green and well-built environment. An institution that will attract the best hands in the world and which will annually contribute to the local production of military hardware, exportable agro-allied products and an entrepreneurial framework that will impact positively on the Biu Community, the North East, the Nation and West Africa.

NAUB will promote self-sufficiency and self-reliance for accelerated national development. NAUB will seek contemporary science, technology, creativity and innovation with the sole aim of domesticating and replicating them for technological advancement in Nigeria. Most importantly, the University will create jobs and assist to re-mediate the crisis situation in the North East.

QUESTION: Is the Nigerian Army University a public or private University?
ANSWER: It is a Public University established and run under the auspices of the Nigerian Army.

QUESTION: How is the Nigerian Army University different from the Nigerian Defence Academy?
ANSWER: The mandate of the Nigerian Defence Academy is very specific: to produce young officers with first degrees for the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Air Force. In some cases the NDA assists the Police, Para-military agencies such as the Customs, Immigration, the Prisons and Civil Defence Corps as well as other security agencies to conduct training for their officers. On the other hand, the Nigerian Army University Biu is meant to produce skilled manpower (selected civilians and soldiers) with distinctive competence capable of meeting the security and technological challenges of both the military and the nation.

QUESTION: WHAT IS THE ADMISSION POLICY OF THE UNIVERSITY?
ANSWER: The admission policy is based on 75% civilian and 25% military/Paramilitary, security agencies, etc the 75% civilian component will be spread to all 36 states of the Federation as well as FCT.

NAUB is a solution centre and is expected to create the critical mass for self-sufficiency and self-reliance in military equipment production in Nigeria. NAUB, which will be research intensive is expected to contribute to the transformation of the Nigerian Defence System into a 21st Century technology-driven force.
