DIRECTORATE OF WORKS

  1. The Directorate of Works is made up of two departments viz Maintenance and Transportation. The Maintenance department is responsible for the maintenance of all public buildings and staff quarters as well as infrastructural facilities of the University. The Transportation department on the other hand ensures the smooth operation of the University vehicles and generators along with their repairs.
  2. The Directorate of works is headed by Brig Gen OJ Ariyo (rtd). The retired Senior Nigerian Army officer is a Civil Engineer with vast experience in Construction. The retired General attended the Nigerian Military School (NMS) Zaria. He then proceeded to the University of Lagos where he earned the BSc (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering in 1990 and MSc in construction Management in 2003. He is a corporate member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (MNSE). Brigadier General Ariyo served in different parts of Nigeria as an Engineer Officer in different capacities as Platoon Commander, Troop Commander, Commanding Officer, Staff Officer, Project Coordinating Officer, Deputy Director and Director of works before his voluntary retirement from the service in 2019 after 35 years of meritorious service as stipulated by extant laws. The General earned many medals in course of his service to our fatherland which includes the Distinguished Service Star (DSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS) among others. Brig Gen Ariyo has been involved in all manner of construction and maintenance works in different places and under all kinds of conditions within and outside Nigeria for more than 30 years. He is married with children.

UNITS UNDER THE DIRECTORATE    

  1. Administration: this Unit is headed by Abubakar Musa and it’s the clerical hub of the Directorate. They ensure timely production of Reports and Estimates. Records of prospective and past works and requests from all are kept by this Unit of the Directorate.
  2. Motor Transport: This unit is headed by MWO Abeku Bamaiyi in acting capacity. It is made up of drivers and automobile mechanics and related technicians. The unit is responsible for the general movement of persons and goods within and outside the University. It is also responsible for maintaining the University’s several generators considering the problem of power outage often experienced from the public power source.
  3. Building/Infrastructure: The Unit is headed by Musa Alhaji Madu. It is responsible for maintenance work in all the public buildings and residential quarters of the University. The Unit also maintains infrastructural facilities of the University and other services.
  4. Electrical/Mechanical: The unit is headed by Abdulwaris Ali. It is responsible for finding solution and effect necessary repairs to all the problems of electricity and water supply of the University. The unit contribution to the smooth daily operations of the University cannot be overstressed considering the importance of electricity and water in our daily life.

 

  1. Landscaping/Beautification: The Unit is headed by Barka Samuel. It is responsible for landscaping and beautification of the University. The Unit ensures that beautiful flowers are planted and maintained while planting trees at strategic locations to serve as wind breakers. The lands are also maintained to ensure proper drainage to curtail the adverse effect of erosion while keeping the grasses low in the Green areas.

 

  1. Sanitary: The Unit is headed by Yakubu Bukar Mala: it is responsible for the cleanliness of all the public buildings and staff quarters of the University as well as the general surroundings.
