Professor Abubakar ALKASIM is a distinguished academician and professor of Renewable Energy & Environmental Physicist. Born on Sunday, 14th March, 1971 to the family of Modibbo Alkasim Salihu in Ganye town, Ganye LGA, Adamawa State Nigeria.
After the early Qur’anic Education, prof Alkasim attended the Sangassumi Primary School Ganye between (1979 – 1985) and proceeded to Government Secondary School Ganye for his junior secondary education. After a successful Senior Science Exams, he proceeds to Government Special Science Secondary School, Ganye where he obtained his SSCE/WASCE in 1991.
Academic Background
Prof. Alkasim earn his BSc Physics (First class Hons.) Degree from the prestigious University of Maiduguri in 1999. He completed his mandatory NYSC at the University of Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State. He obtains his MTech and PhD in Energy Physics from the Modibbo Adama University, Yola in 2007 and 2012 respectively.
He began his academic career as a Graduate Assistant with the Modibbo Adama University, Yola on the 18th July 2001 where he rose through the academic ladder to a Professor of Energy/Environmental Physics on the 1st October, 2020. His area of specialization is Renewable Energy/Environmental Physics.
His academic career progression is thus: Graduate Assistant, (2001); Assistant Lecturer (2007); Lecturer II, (2009); Lecturer I, (2011); Senior lecturer, (2014); Associate Professor, (2017); Professor, (2020).
Academic Achievements
He taught virtually all the courses at undergraduate level and all courses in Renewable Energy at the postgraduate level. He Supervised Two (2) PGD Physics; Ten (10) M.Tech. Energy Physics and Three (3) on supervision. Two (2) PhD Physics (supervised) and Three (3) on supervision. Apart from Many undergraduate projects supervised in different fields of Physics and Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). He has over Fifty (50) academic publications in both National and International academic referred Journals and Two (2) Books. He was a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (FNIP) as well a Fellow of Solar Energy Society of Nigerian (FSESN).
Professional Activities
Professor Alkasim was a Visiting lecturer, to many Nigerian Universities (2014 – Date), a Sabbatical staff to Nigerian Army University, Biu Borno State Nigeria (2021 – 2022), an External Moderator/ Examiner to many institutions from 2016 to Date.
Leadership Experience
Prof Alkasim has served the university in different responsibilities. He was the Departmental Examination Officer (2001 – 2002), the Faculty Representative to SIWES Unit (2009 – 2010), the Faculty Representative to School Board of Postgraduate Studies (2015 – 2016), the HOD, Department of Science Laboratory Technology, SLT (2016 – 2021).
Prof Alkasim served other institutions and organizations as well. He was the Member Adamawa State Transition Committee (Education) in (2019); Member Recruitment Panel for both Academic Staff and Technologist cadre, Nigerian Army University, Biu (2022) He was the National officials to Nigerian Institute of Physics. Dean Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Nigerian Army University, Biu and Acted Severally for the Vice Chancellor NAUB.
Board/Committee Membership
Prof Alkasim was the chairman Junior Staff Appraisal Committee (2020-2023), a chairman Committee on Review of University Post graduate Honorarium & External Exam (2015); Member Research Group on Thermal and Photovoltaic Energy which turns to be a standing committee for the provision of solar hybrid power in collaboration with the EEP NUC project (2016 – Date). At NAUB he was chairman as well as member to many academic and administrative committees notably the Chairman Senate Business Committee (SBC).
Professor Alkasim is happily married and is blessed with eight (8) children. His Hobbies includes Reading, making friends and listening to Radio.
DEPARTMENTS AND THEIR HEADS
Department of Chemistry
Dr Ibrahim Olasegun Abdulsalami is the Head of Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Nigerian Army University Biu, Biu, Nigeria. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. He holds B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos in 2005, M.Sc. in Biophysical Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria and Ph. D in Physical Chemistry from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Ogbomoso, Nigeria.
He started his formal academic career, in September 2011, as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Sciences, Fountain University Osogbo, Osogbo, Nigeria. There he rose through the ranks and became a Senior Lecturer, in October 2020. At the Fountain University Osogbo, he held various leadership positions, which include the Coordinator (Ag. Dean) Student Affairs (2013 – 2019), Departmental Examinations Officer, Chairman of various Committees. He joined the Nigerian Army University Biu, Biu, Nigeria in October 2020 as a Senior Lecturer. He was appointed the Head of Department, Department of Chemistry, in March 2021. He led the Department to its maiden accreditation in December 2022, where the Department got the first full accreditation status. He was appointed the Coordinator of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office, NAUB, in February 2022, when the Centre was commissioned.
He is an entrepreneur per excellence. He has trained well above five hundred trainees in various entrepreneurial skills, facilitated the formulation and production of about seven hundred buckets of emulsion paints and supervised the painting of the Fountain University Students’ Hostels. Until his departure from the Fountain University, he was the producer of household chemicals (such germicides, disinfectants, tile-wash and insecticides). He played a major in the fumigation cum sanitation of the entire University, post Covid-19 lockdown.
Ibrahim has well above fifteen (15) years working experience as a University Teacher. He has more than thirty-five (35) published peer reviewed articles in reputable Journals and also has four (4) book chapters to his credit. He has attended a number of workshops and conferences and has presented papers in the latter.
Department of Biology: The Department of Biology is amongst the Departments established since the inception of the University in October 2018. The Department started with ten (10) Academic Staff and fifty-one (51) students. The Staff strength has grown over years and now has more than twenty Academic Staff, five (5) Laboratory Technologists, two (2) Laboratory Assistants and some Administrative staff. The Students population has increase to about two hundred students and our pioneer set have graduated. The Department got a full accreditation status in 2022
The Department’s philosophy is to train and produce graduates with a sound, broad-based degree, who are capable of using the vast available natural resources in contributing to national growth and development, through basic and applied researches in the areas of Agriculture, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology and Environmental Sciences in line with the mission and vision of the University.
The pioneer Head of Department was Captain ME Atukpa (N/15052) BSc PGDE MSc, mNARC, mTRCN (2019-2021), then Ag Head of Department Major MM Danzaki (N/13072) FSS, BSc, MSc, PGDE, mTRCN, PhD (2021) and presently Dr. Usman Alhaji Mohammed, mPPSN, mTRCN from September, 2021 till date.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE DEPARTMENTAL HEAD
The Head of Department was born in 1985 in Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State Nigeria and had his Primary and Secondary Education at Staff School, College of Education Azare now referred to Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare, Bauchi State. He obtained his first degree (BSc. Hons) in Biology from University of Abuja in 2010 and after his National Youth Service (NYSC) in 2011. He obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Aminu Saleh College of Education in affiliation to University of Maiduguri in 2011 and Certificate in Computer Operation in the same Institution in 2012. He joined the service of Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare as full time lecturer on 2nd August, 2012. In 2013, he was sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for his MSc at University of Bakht Al-ruda, Sudan where he obtained his MSc and PhD Biology (Parasitology) in 2015 and 2018 respectively. He is a member of Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN) and Teacher Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He has published many articles and attained conferences at both national and international levels with many citations. He served for a period of one year as part-time lecturer (2011-2012) and good seven (7) years (2012-2019) as full time lecturer at Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare before joined the service of Nigerian Army University Biu in January 2019 as Lecturer I.
He has taught different categories of learners ranging from Diploma, NCE, Pre Degree and Undergraduates courses among which include all Biology/Zoology related courses at Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare and Nigerian Army University Biu. He has Chaired and a member of various Committees and hold many Administrative position at both Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare and Nigerian Army University Biu among which include level Coordinator, Assistant Exam Officer, Departmental Registration Officer, Departmental Exam Office, Faculty and Departmental Seminar Coordinator, Faculty and Departmental Research Coordinator, Chairman and member of Appointment and Promotion Committees, Ag. Head of Department etc. Currently, He is a Senior Lecturer and Head of Biology Department. He is happily married with two children.
