OFFICIALS OF NAUB ARRIVE LASU TO UNDERSTUDY UNIVERSITY`S ICT MODEL

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, of the Nigerian Army University, Biu, Borno State, Prof. Ibrahim Adamu, on Tuesday, 15th August 2023, led a high-powered delegation of the Institution on a visit to the Lagos State University to understudy the operations of ICT in the University in a bid to replicate it in their institution. Head of the Institution’s Software Development unit and Head of Department of Computer Science were on the delegation.
Prof. Adamu, during his team’s meeting with members of the University Management, at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, said the Nigerian Military University was determined to leverage on the expertise of the LASU Directorate of ICT who actualize their automation drive and urged the university to support their mission. He explained that LASU’s exploits in ICT is well acknowledged, hence the choice of the institution as a model for the Military University.
“We have heard so much about LASU and we are here to see things for ourselves and collaborate with you to stimulate our own ICT”, said the professor of Mathematics.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Omotunde Boyo, in her remarks, said the team was at the right place. “I thank you for choosing LASU. You are at the right place. Everything you will see in our ICT is developed in-house in line with the vision of the Directorate. You will gain a lot by coming to understudy us and I believe the partnership would go even further with an MoU.”
The Director, Directorate of ICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, also corroborated the stance of the Acting VC. “Every member of management that you see here are also ICT experts because they are all involved in our processes. So, we have the leadership support, and that is very key.
All processes involving our students are online, from admission to graduation. Even our administrative processes are also automated, just as all our products are developed in-house”, he said, noting that other universities had also leveraged on the DICT in the past.
Other members of the university management also added their voice as they lauded the visitors for their interest in the university and assured them of a productive stay.
At the end of the meeting, the team left for the Directorate of ICT, LASU, where they would spend the next three days under the guidance of Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin.

SIWES ORIENTATION
The Students Industrial Work Scheme (SIWES) Unit of the Nigerian Army University organized an orientation exercise for 300-level students from 19 Bachelor’s Degree programs participating in the SIWES training program for the 2024/2025 academic session. The event aimed to enlighten students on successfully completing their Industrial Training without hitches.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Kyari Mohammed, represented by the DVC Administration, Prof Ahmed Imam, urged students to be good ambassadors of the University in character and learning. Prof Imam emphasized that SIWES bridges the gap between theory and practice, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
The DVC Academics, Prof Isa Ibrahim Adamu, encouraged students to acquire skills during their SIWES training, which will benefit them after graduation. He highlighted the program’s importance in providing graduates with practical experiences in their field of study.
The DG ITF Area Manager, Dr. Yusuf Ahmed M, represented by Head of Training Mr. Hassan B Kwaghe, appreciated the University management’s efforts and provided a background on ITF’s role in providing skills and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The Registrar, Brig Gen HY Abdulhamid, expressed his gratitude in his vote of thanks, appreciating the Vice Chancellor, NAUB management and the ITF official for their contribution. He urging the students to attentively listen to the presentation by the ITF officials and exhibit exemplary behavior, demonstrating their commitment to learning and personal growth.
The SIWES Coordinator, Dr. Faruk Abubakar, emphasized the program’s objective of exposing students to real-world work environments, fostering skills development, and enhancing employability. He urged students to abide by their employers’ laws and regulations, observe safety rules, and be exemplary ambassadors.
The technical session featured presentations from ITF officials on SIWES documentation and payment and the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in SIWES.
